New Year, New You … One of the silliest sayings ever.
Why do we do this to ourselves!? New Year’s resolutions- making unrealistic drastic changes in our everyday routines and expecting ourselves to immediately be something we are not? Humans aren’t wired like that. We become who we are after routinely doing whatever that something is or isn’t and making a habit of it. For those who don’t work out, it’s been routine not to, so it’s very hard to just start a new habit of doing so and sticking to it. Same for those who eat junk food, or sleep in too late, or whatever it is. It took time forming and allowing that habit so it immediately expecting our human minds to undo that is just silly. And, on top of that, we beat ourselves up for not easily undoing what we don’t like about ourselves. Instead, how about we start the new year, or anytime in life when you want a refresh, and come up with a word you want to live by for the coming year and beyond.
